President Petro shared the news during a recent Council of Ministers meeting, saying he would no longer be able to travel to Washington, D.C. for scheduled discussions at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. In his place, Colombia’s Minister of Finance, GermĂĄn Ávila, is representing the country at the meetings this week.

“I can’t go anymore because I think they’ve revoked my visa,” Petro stated. “I didn’t need a visa before, but hey—I’ve seen Donald Duck several times. So, I’m off to see other things.”

The revocation comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions between Colombia and the United States. Earlier this year, President Trump warned of “decisive retaliatory measures” after Colombia refused to allow two US Military flights full of migrants land in January.

The U.S. government has not officially disclosed the reason behind the visa revocation
