13-Year-Old Girl Dies After Watching TikTok Videos

A 13-year-old girl, Maia Walsh, has tragically passed away after reportedly watching self-harm videos on TikTok.

Maia was found dead in her bedroom at her home in Hertford on October 7, 2023.

Her father, Liam Walsh, claimed that she had been exposed to disturbing content on TikTok, which may have played a role in her death. He referred to it as a “social media game” that influenced her actions.

A pre-inquest review (PIR) hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, at 10 AM at Hertfordshire Coroner’s Court. The full inquest, to be held at a later date, will determine whether Maia’s death was a case of suicide.

The hearing will also investigate the role of social media, including concerns raised by her father about harmful content on TikTok. Authorities will work to gather more information on Maia’s online activity before her passing.
