Nurse in UK Disciplined for Referring to Transgender Patient as ‘Mr’
Ugandan-born nurse Jennifer Melle is facing dismissal after being disciplined for refusing to refer to a 6ft-plus transgender pedophile as a woman in the UK.
The patient, who was transferred from a high-security men’s prison, allegedly hurled racial slurs at Melle, calling her the “N-word” three times during a tirade at St Helier Hospital in Carshalton, Surrey.

In October 2024, Jennifer was disciplined and given a final warning following an investigation. She was also referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Now, she is taking legal action against the Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals Trust, accusing them of harassment, discrimination, and violating her human rights.
In the claim, she said: ““Ever since I have expressed my Christian beliefs under extreme pressure, I have been a marked woman.”
The patient, referred to as Patient X, arrived from a men’s prison last year at Melle Ward to receive treatment for a urinary issue.
During one of Jennifer Melle’s shifts, a colleague informed her that the patient wanted to self-discharge, prompting a doctor to be called for guidance.
While speaking with the doctor on the phone outside the patient’s room, Melle referred to the patient as “mister” and “he”.
She explained that she was discussing the removal of a catheter for a male patient and added: “This was a real-life medical scenario that required accurate terminology to avoid any doubt between medical professionals.”
Overhearing the conversation, Patient X took offense and reacted personally.
When Jennifer Melle ended the call, she responded by saying, “Sorry, I cannot refer to you as ‘her’ or ‘she,’ as it’s against my faith and Christian values, but I can call you by your name.”
The patient began to verbally abuse the nurse, saying: “Imagine if I called you n—–? How about I call you n—–? Yes, black n—–.”
Ms. Melle also claimed that the patient lunged at her despite being restrained and then threatened to file a complaint against her.
She added: “It was terrifying. I’d never been called that word before. And I thought I was going to be attacked.”
According to the code of conduct, nurses are expected not to express their personal beliefs—including political, religious, or moral views—in an inappropriate manner.
However, Ms. Melle denied breaching the code, arguing that a white colleague had also referred to the patient as male but faced no abuse or investigation.
She added: “My conduct throughout this incident and during my career has been fully compliant with the code.
“I have been put at risk, but I am being treated like a criminal. Sadly, if you put your head above the parapet and speak truthfully on these issues in the NHS, the risk is that you will be knocked down, punished severely and demoted.”

The man recording the video then explained the child’s age while speaking to viewers.
He could be heard saying: “Hello guys, this baby is not up till 1 year he is 9months, he is so amazing”
The footage prompted different reactions in the comments section, with some viewers expressing concern about the baby and suggesting that his parents should take him to a hospital for medical assessment.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday, with both individuals receiving 100 strokes of the cane as punishment under Aceh’s Islamic regulations.
Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that formally implements Islamic criminal law, which includes regulations covering relationships and sexual conduct.
Photos from the punishment showed the woman being caned in public as officials carried out the sentence.
Her male partner was also seen receiving the punishment, with photographs showing him wincing as the cane struck him.
