Singer Sam Moore is dead

Soul legend Sam Moore has passed away. The iconic singer died on Friday morning in Coral Gables, Florida, due to complications following surgery. However, the type of surgery he underwent has not been publicly disclosed.  

Moore rose to fame in the 1960s as one half of the dynamic duo Sam & Dave, known for timeless hits like “Soul Man,” “Hold On, I’m Coming,” and *”I Thank You.” His powerful voice and unforgettable performances made him a staple of soul music history.  

He was first discovered in church by legendary singer Sam Cooke, who believed Moore had the talent to shine in gospel music. Moore’s partnership with Dave Prater began during a nightclub talent show in South Florida, and their undeniable chemistry caught the attention of Atlantic Records in 1965.  

Though Sam & Dave broke up in 1970, their legacy was revived in the late ’70s when The Blues Brothers, portrayed by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, performed “Soul Man” on Saturday Night Live.  

As a solo artist, Moore collaborated with major stars like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Preston, and Jon Bon Jovi, continuing to influence the music world with his incredible voice.  

In recognition of their groundbreaking contributions to soul and R&B, Sam & Dave were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, cementing their place in music history.
