He Doesn’t Have a Job, So What Else Does He Need Besides Books? – Tyler Perry Shares He Got His Son a Budget-Friendly Christmas Gift
Tyler Perry recently opened up about the modest gifts he chose for his son and his approach to raising him to avoid a sense of entitlement.
While appearing on the latest episode of “Shepherd Sherri” on December 18th, Perry discussed his parenting philosophy, emphasizing that he doesn’t spoil his son or entertain extravagant Christmas lists. Instead, his son receives simple, meaningful gifts—a book and Legos.
“He doesn’t get a Christmas list,” Perry said. “He gets two things: books and Legos.”
When the host, Sherri Shepherd, responded with surprise, asking, “That’s it?” Perry quipped: “He doesn’t have a job! What else is he going to get?”
He explained further: “So that he understands I worked, he did not! So when he works, he can learn that lesson. He’s not going to be one of those ridiculous spoiled rich kids. I can’t stand that. No! He ain’t got no money!”
Perry also shared how he prioritizes his son’s privacy and individuality, shielding him from public scrutiny: “I want him to know who he is before people start to say, ‘Oh, that’s Tyler Perry’s son.’ I make sure he’s not seen in public.
“Even when I’m at a game, I’m in the back so he can play and not be bothered. All those things are important to me so he can have as much of a normal life as he can. Very different from my childhood, but I don’t want him to be that spoiled, rich, entitled.”
