Man Beaten to Death While Trying to Rescue Dog from Abusive Owner

A Michigan man, Robert Cavanaugh, 60, tragically died on Christmas Eve after being beaten to death while trying to save a dog from abuse by a neighbor.

According to reports, the incident began when Robert witnessed a man attacking a dog. In an effort to intervene, he approached the situation but was brutally assaulted with a metal pipe.

Police found Robert bleeding at the scene at around 7:40 p.m., where he succumbed to his injuries.Announcing his death on GoFundMe, his sister, Jane Thompson, wrote:”With no hesitation, Bobby tried to stop that man, but instead, Bobby was beaten to death with a pipe this man is a repeated felon, and has been released from 2 different long term prison sentences.

“Bobby had a heart of gold and would do whatever he could to help the community in any way that he could and would never ask for a penny. 

“He did everything from his heart. 

‘He was a man that loved the Lord and always gave back whenever he could especially all animals.’

Police have arrested the suspect, whose name has not been disclosed. Charges are pending further investigation by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.
