I Regret the Marriage My Mom Warned Me About—Even Now, I Can’t even date any Man in my life
A woman has shared her regrets after marrying a man her mother had warned her about.
In an interview with Dating Stories, she revealed that her experience has left her hesitant to engage with men who show interest in her. She described how one man, who genuinely cared for her, would go out of his way to make her feel special, such as arranging her desk and helping her with tasks.
However, she admitted that she dismissed his efforts because she wasn’t impressed.
“There’s this guy who used to sit close to me—there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for me. He’d arrange my desk, tell me which math problem to focus on. He’s so bright, but I’d just tell him, ‘Get out of here.’ I almost even told him, ‘Look at that guy (referring to her ex)—there’s no comparison between you two,’” she shared.
Despite going through multiple breakups with different men, she shared how she met a man during an audition. He showered her with love, and eventually, they got married.
She also mentioned that when she first met him, she wasn’t looking for a relationship. She just wanted to get to know him. Over time, she realized they shared the same vibe. However, deep down, she knew he wasn’t the one she truly wanted to be with. But she still got married to him because everyone around her was in relationships leading to marriage.
She also opened up about being called materialistic because she always looks good and smells nice.
According to her, this led to meeting someone who made her regret ever getting married.
“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what you all think about me?’ So I said, ‘Okay, I’ll find myself a broke man—someone we can build a life together.’ I met this man when he finished campus. He was okay—not badly off, doing well, but not like anyone I’d dated before. We started something, but the pressure was real. The pressure to prove a point.
“When I brought him to my mom for the first visit, she said, ‘He’s not a bad person, but I want you to take it slow.’ In my head, I thought, ‘Woman, you’ve been single for so long. I’ve just found someone who even came to tell you we’re getting married, and this is what you’re saying?’ I told her, ‘We’re not having this conversation. I’m getting married.’
“We went ahead with the relationship, but we had fights here and there. At the time, I wasn’t mentally stable enough to handle marriage. Marriage isn’t a joke—it’s work, and it requires capacity. I had none of that. I didn’t even have a job that could support me or help me in the marriage.
“When I got married, even on my wedding day, my mom told me not to do it. She said she didn’t see anything good coming from it—not specifically about the marriage, but she saw trouble ahead.
“She told me, ‘I’m the only one who understands where you are. The rest of the people here are here for different reasons—some to see how beautiful the wedding is, some to eat, and others just for a trip to the coast because you’re taking them there. I’m not saying this out of jealousy, but I don’t feel right about it.’
“She said, ‘This is the last time I’ll bring it up. I respect your decision.’ I looked her in the eye and said, ‘Today is my wedding. Either you’re here, or please just go back.’ She replied, ‘If that’s what you’ve decided, I’ll support you. I’ll walk you down the aisle and be happy for you.’
“But in my head, I knew I was making the wrong choice. Still, I needed to prove a point that I could get married.
“On the wedding day, it rained. I felt like God was saying no in every way possible.
“Trouble began immediately after the wedding. Drama started right away. He wasn’t a bad person—we even had a beautiful boy. We had happy days, but the bad days were full of struggles and issues.”
She shared that she didn’t leave the marriage right away.
“I didn’t leave—we just separated to try to work things out. In my head, I prayed and cried for my marriage. I even cried to God. But my husband made his choice, and God made His choice—it wasn’t going to work. My husband was clear and ended it all.
“In my mind, I thought maybe I’d revisit the idea when my son turned 17. But that wasn’t how things turned out.”
When asked if she plans to date again after marriage, she said: “Even the thought of going on a date or getting to know someone is scary. I keep thinking, ‘What if it doesn’t work out? What’s all this energy for? Let’s save it for other things.'”
For anyone considering marriage, her advice was: “Find fulfillment in yourself. You have to be okay with being by yourself. Even if you marry the most romantic person, if you’re not fulfilled within, it won’t work. You’ll become a burden to the relationship. Fulfillment isn’t found in things or people—it’s in God.”

In a video shared on X, the woman explained that she normally sends money to her Access Bank account in Nigeria as a way of saving her funds.
According to her, she became concerned after noticing an issue with her account and attempted to contact her account officer, identified as Doris.

She said Doris initially did not respond to her messages, which she described as unusual, before eventually contacting her and asking whether she had withdrawn money from the account.
The woman said her account officer later accessed her account and printed her bank statement, where they reportedly noticed transactions involving N5 million.
She said: “She was giving me different excuses so suddnely she entered my account and told me to send her a email because she cannot enter my account again because they have blocked her, she logged into my account and printed the statement of my account and we saw the people that withdraw N5M from my account and their names is there their bvn, their photos are there that we can use to get them arrested and accorinding to my account officer, she said she would login into Palmpay and others that they use to in nigeria and i told her fine do it to see if we get any good reply.
“She then told me that accessbank did not do anything and she cannot do anything behind accessbank, I have emailed accessbank countless of times, I did not see their reply, I cry onto Nigerians please have mercy on me before accessbank kills me silently please have mercy on meN5m is too much to avoid for me……. Nigerians I need help, Nigeria police please i have evidnece to have these people arrested their BVN Number, picture account number is there even one of their number is on whatsapp they wiithdraw N5M from my account Nigerians please help, I cannot avoid N5M i didnt steal before I saw this money have mercy on me”
The woman is now appealing to Nigerians, the Nigeria Police Force and Access Bank to look into the matter and help establish what happened to the money.
She also claimed that she had contacted the bank several times through email but had not received the response she expected.
