I tell my daughters if their husband sl@p them, they should do their own back- Emir of Kano
The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, has shared the advice he gives his daughters regarding domestic violence, stating that if a husband ever slaps them, they should slap him back.
Speaking at the National Dialogue Conference on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention from an Islamic Perspective, the Emir highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence, revealing that 45% of cases handled in nine Shari’a courts across Kano over five years involved wife-beating and other forms of domestic abuse.
Speaking, he said: “You can take that verse and say that as a husband, I’ve been given this permission to be@t my wife light. And nobody will deny that, nobody will say it is haram if you comply with all the rules. But if you live in a society in which those rules are never applied, nobody who is angry remembers to look for a chewing stick or a handkerchief.
They just sl@p these women and punch them and kick them and be@t them. I just wrote a doctorate thesis on family law, and I did research on nine courts, nine Shari’a courts in Kano. 41% of the cases over a five-year period had to do with maintenance. 26 per cent had to do with h@rm. And out of those, 45 per cent were cases of wife be@ting, domestic v!olence. And when we go to the content analysis, not one case of wife beating was light beating.
We had women whose limbs were broken. We had women whose teeth were knocked out. We had women who were victims of constant be@ting with sticks. We had women where the husband and his other wives be@t one of the wives. We’ve had cases of Cardis having to send her sons to trial for criminal ass@ult because of the nature of the beating against their wives. This is the common beating that happens.
Beating your wife or beating your daughter or beating a woman is prohibited. It is a crime. Let’s not even talk about handkerchief or chewing stick. It is just haram. It is prohibited. Allah says, All harm must be removed. And beating, gender-based violence is harm. And it must be removed.
It just does not make sense. Now I said it before, and I know I’ve been attacked for it, and I’ll continue saying it. When my daughters are getting married, I say to them, if your husband slaps you, and you come home and tell me my husband slapped me, without slapping him back first, I will sl@p you myself because I did not send my daughter to marry somebody so he can slap her. If you do not like her, send her back to me. But don’t be@t her.
And we must teach our daughters not to take it. And also teach our sons that it is not allowed to happen. It is not acceptable. It cannot happen. We have to bring up our children to understand that violence against the body of another human being, whether it’s your brother, or your sister, or your son, or your daughter, or your wife, that v!olence against persons violates the basic dignity of a human being.”he said

I’m left with nothing,I’m homeless, I have no child, no family- Man cries out after Kenyan girlfriend dupes him

Rodrick Lodge said he was left financially devastated after what he believed was a genuine relationship with a Kenyan woman eventually turned out to be a scam.

Rodrick first met his Kenyan girlfriend, “Mary,” while working in Nairobi in 2020, following the death of his wife of 25 years, Pauline.

He said: “I’ve known her since 2020 and I thought she was a friend.
“We started exchanging messages on Viber. She told me she was MD of a beauty company and had 30 employees. She sounded successful, she said she was having a house built in Voi, about 200 miles from Nairobi.”
As their communication continued, Rodrick said the woman told him she was building a house and sent him numerous photographs, including intimate images which he said he no longer has.
Although they initially remained friends, Rodrick eventually developed feelings for her and the relationship progressed. He said he later decided that he wanted to marry her.
Rodrick claimed that he paid a dowry and also agreed to cover expenses for a house he believed she was building.
However, despite the length of their relationship, Rodrick said they never met in person. He also claimed they never spoke over the phone, adding that whenever he tried to arrange a meeting, she would give him different excuses.
“She was sending pictures of solar panels and water pumps. I thought it was going well. Then, in November, she told me she had to go to Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to market her products. She said there were cash flow problems and the business didn’t have enough money. So I paid for that too. She’d send pictures of her and her friends in Kigali [capital of Rwanda], it looked like she was doing well.”
Rodrick said he continued sending money despite the repeated excuses and delays, only becoming suspicious after another request for financial assistance.
“She was always putting things off, making excuses. I realise now I was such a fool. I should have stopped it there and then. In May she said her dad was in a particular hospital and she needed help with the bills. But when we checked, there was no one with his name there. That finished it.”
After making inquiries about the hospital, Rodrick said he began to believe that the person he had been communicating with may not have been who he thought she was.
“I doubt that Anita even exists. I’ve no idea who I’ve been communicating with. I’m in such a mess. My bank accounts have been frozen because I’ve gone overdrawn, I can’t get access to my pensions and I’ve got nowhere to live. I’ve been a giving person all my life and I aimed to retire to Kenya and marry Anita.
“I’ve been so stupid. She never existed. It was a creation. I’m totally lost. I have zero cash and am relying on a couple of friends. I’m going to be a poor man for a long time. It was all a scam, I realise that now. I have no family, no kids that can help me. It’s over for me.”
Rodrick said the experience has left him without access to his savings and pensions and with nowhere to live, leaving him dependent on friends as he tries to recover from the financial loss

My Heart Is Broken, My Parents Are Devastated,A Family Has Lost a Daughter – Sister of Lady Found Lifeless in a Man’s Bathroom Speaks Out

Previous reports said a man identified in connection with the case was arrested after neighbours confronted him following the discovery of the body. Police subsequently began investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

In the video that circulated online, the man was questioned about what happened to the woman. He reportedly gave an account linking the incident to HIV.
However, Chinyere’s sister has now questioned that account and urged the public not to treat it as the complete explanation until investigators establish the facts.
In a lengthy statement shared on October 1, 2026, Maryam introduced herself as Mrs Ugwu Kenechi Modesta Maryam and described Chinyere as her immediate younger sister.
She wrote:
“GOOD MORNING TO EVERYONE AND TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF NIGERIA.
Today, 1st October 2026, I am writing this with a heart that is extremely heavy.
My name is MRS UGWU KENECHI MODESTA MARYAM and I am the immediate elder sister of MISS UGWU CHINYERE SUSAN ROSEMARY, popularly known as It Chinny Susan Rosemary or ITCHINNYS Event Planner.
The young lady whose tragic death has been circulating across social media is my baby sister.
The beautiful young woman you see in this picture was not only beautiful she was a hardworking, ambitious and determined young woman. She was a hustler who worked hard to build a life for herself.
Those who know me and my sisters, those who grew up with us, and those who know our family understand that we were raised to work hard and fend for ourselves . Before this tragedy, our family had no idea that my sister would become known across Nigeria because of such a painful circumstance.
Today, I am coming forward because my sister can no longer speak for herself. I must speak for her.
There have been reports circulating that she was killed because of HIV. As her family, we are questioning that account and asking the appropriate authorities and the public not to assume that this is the complete story until the investigation establishes the facts.
Yesterday, in the presence of the Commissioner of Police, my immediate younger brother, my mother, my father and my aunt, who is also a police officer, I personally witnessed an interview involving the suspect.
What we heard raised even more questions for our family.

According to the account we heard, the suspect initially spoke about using a pestle to attack my sister. However, when questioned about some of the injuries, including injuries to her head and neck, he reportedly gave a different account and mentioned using a machete.
As a family, we need answers.
What exactly happened to my sister?
What caused the injuries on her body?
What happened to her neck and the back of her head?
What was actually used to inflict those injuries?
Why was her body allegedly kept inside a toilet within the apartment?
And what is the explanation for the items reportedly found in the apartment, including a calabash, candles and red cloth/rope?
Where the one of my sister wrist ?
These are not conclusions from me. They are questions that require proper investigation and evidence.
I am deliberately choosing my words because I understand that this matter is now a criminal investigation, and I do not want social media speculation to replace the work of the police, medical professionals and the courts.
But I also cannot remain silent.
My sister was someone’s daughter. She was someone’s sister. She was someone’s friend. She had dreams, plans and a future.
Whatever the circumstances surrounding her death, she deserves to have the truth established.
This experience has also taught me a painful lesson about social media. Before this happened to my family, I understood how quickly information spreads online. But now that it has happened to me personally, I understand even more deeply why people must be careful about believing everything they see or hear online.
I am therefore appealing to the good people of Nigeria, journalists, bloggers, human rights advocates, lawyers, responsible social media users and everyone who believes in justice
Please do not allow my sister’s story to be reduced to an unverified headline.
Please help us demand a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation.
If you have genuine information, evidence, photographs, videos or credible material that may assist the investigation, please preserve it and share it with the family or the appropriate authorities.
We are not asking anyone to take the law into their own hands.
We are asking for truth, due process and justice.
My heart is broken. My parents are devastated. A family has lost a daughter, a sister and a loved one.
Ugwu Chinyere Susan Rosemary you can no longer speak for yourself, but your family will not stop speaking for you, Maryam Kenechi Mama Kuro will not stop
We will continue to seek the truth through the proper channels.
JUSTICE FOR UGWU CHINYERE ROSEMARY SUSAN.
JUSTICE FOR SUZY MONEY
May God grant my family strength and may the truth prevail.

Iranian Singer Parastoo Ahmadi Sentenced to 74 Lashes After Performing Without Hijab

The 29-year-old singer attracted attention in December 2024 after she wore a sleeveless dress while performing and streamed the concert on her YouTube channel.

Under Iran’s laws, women are required to wear headscarves and modest clothing in public spaces. Following the release of the performance, Iranian authorities opened legal proceedings against Ahmadi.
According to reports, prosecutors said the performance violated the country’s legal and cultural regulations after the video received millions of views online.

In June, a criminal court in Qom reportedly found Ahmadi and eight members of her band and production team guilty of charges including “offending public decency” through the publication of “obscene and indecent material.”
On Friday, the defendants’ appeal was rejected by a higher court without a hearing, according to their lawyers.

One of Ahmadi’s lawyers told the BBC that the defence team believed the performance should not have been treated as a crime.
“In our view, holding the concert was not a crime at all,” the lawyer said.
The lawyer also argued that the court imposed a severe punishment despite other possible penalties being available.
“The Court of Appeal, despite having the option of holding a hearing, did not hold a hearing and upheld the judgment. It appears that the main reason for issuing this judgment was to deter the recurrence of similar events.”
