I was pregnant not knowing that he had infected me with HIV- Woman shares experience with Ex-boyfriend

Zandile Simanline, a young woman, has shared her heartbreaking story of contracting HIV after a relationship with her ex-boyfriend. She was just 17 years old when she fell pregnant and unknowingly contracted the virus.

Zandile revealed in an interview with Briefly TV that she made the mistake of not using protection. Unfortunately, her secret didn’t stay hidden for long. After confiding in a family member, the news spread widely when she shared her experience on Facebook.

How she found out she was HIV Positive, she said: “So i decided let me go and do test this is months later like this is august now 2011 and the results came back positive those two lines was probably the most devastating moments in my life I think there was just a complete numbness I walked home cried a river isolated in the room for a good week you know when it comes to support and family and HIV I don’t think we have mastered how this support looks like as families especially as black families.

“First and foremost sex is absurd we shouldn’t be talking about sex you can imagine we never really had the sex conversation so now we must discuss hiv with you that’s alot i think they themselves never knew how to support me.

She revealed that she grew up in challenging circumstances, raised by a single mother of 13 children, with her father absent during the times they needed him most.

Speaking about her breakup, she explained that it happened after an incident where she had gone to her boyfriend’s place with a friend after attending a party. She admitted being drunk and couldn’t recall if they had unprotected sex. Her boyfriend insisted she sleep on the couch instead of his bed, which added to the tension between them.

Adding, she said: “I honestly don’t remember that having a conversation about the transition from using protection to not using protection I don’t think that conversation happened, i think i was told because i don’t also remember having a much safe in anything during that period of his existence in my life even when we had unprotected sex, i know i was uncomfortable about it and I did pick up that HIV and pregnancy were possible risks if one was exposed to unprotected sex growing up i have lost and seen family going through being HIV positive and eventually losing their lives It was a complete different time then i can almost say i was bullied into it and never had a choice or a voice to opt out of not using a condom, It has been about 2 weeks of not seeing him i started feeling Ill i think i had a bit of nausea and my period was no were to be seen but i was also in denial about it because in any other situation you always think it would never happen to me Im 17 pregnancy what no if i’m pregnant i would definitely be proving this people right regardless from the fact that I had unprotected sex it was still far from me…… So i found out i’m pregnant 2 weeks later then i did the test in a bathroom in a restaurant in town i remember and it came out two lines this is now july I sent him a message or called him i dont remember hey listen im pregnant  his response was go back to the man that you have been having sex with in the past 2 weeks a very confusing time and response.

“I think It dawned upon him that he could really be the father, he rang me the following day to say can we meet and he is going to take me to an actual clinic hospital and we did that test and we parted way and he said he would call me when the results came out i think there were not immediate he rang me the following day and said let’s go get the results and the results came back and they said 6 weeks and i said okay what must happen now he said what do you think must happen?? So we agreed that i was going to terminate the pregnancy travel to a certain hospital he said i must find out how much it is so i did my homework and he said he would drop off the money so the last time i ever saw him was when he came to drop off that brown envelope that had that amount of money he never came back to ask if i had went through with it and if i was successful he never followed up and to be honest i didn’t want to terminate but i had to so what happened just before the termination the sister and i decided lets go and trip away and she was going through stuff and i was going through stuff.

“A day or two after in a preparation to proceed with the termination I started getting cramps and these cramps were so bad that i could swore i was in labor i said i need to see a doctor and when i got to the doctor, the doctor did say that I was getting a miscarriage and I was admitted there and then i was sort of have a good riddens and as much as things were no longer the same at school and things were no longer the same in my life.

Sharing her HIV Status on facebook, she said she did this to change other ladies living with this virus to be positive 

She said in a part : “So i disclosed my HIV Status on facebook and said my name is Zand and i am HIV Positive and i said this because i would like to change the next’s girl life “
