Monk beaten to death after Intruder invades monastery claiming he is Jesus christ

A monk and seven others were brutally attacked in a Spanish monastery after an intruder broke in, leading to the monk’s death.

The 76-year-old monk passed away in a Valencia hospital on Saturday after the intruder assaulted him and other monks in their rooms at the Santo Espiritu del Monte Monastery in Gilet. 

Eyewitnesses reported that the 46-year-old intruder wielded a stick and a glass bottle, hitting the monks.

He used a staff from a historic statue, shouting, “I am Jesus Christ” and claimed he was acting “in the name of God.” During the attack, seven monks were injured, and three clergymen, aged 57, 66, and 95, were hospitalized, with one in critical condition.

According to Gilet’s mayor, Salvador Costa, the intruder jumped the monastery fence and went from room to room, physically assaulting the monks with clear intent to kill.

The attacker fled after one clergyman intervened to protect his injured companions. 

After 24hrs of his arrest, he was arrested by the police in the erly hours of Sunday. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
