Ghanaians reacts as President Nana Akufo-Addo unveils his Self honoring statue
Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has faced backlash after unveiling a statue of himself outside a regional hospital in Sekondi.
The statue was presented as part of a “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region, led by Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, to celebrate Akufo-Addo’s development projects during his two terms in office.

However, the gesture has sparked criticism, with opposition MP Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah condemning the statue in a post on X (formerly Twitter) writing: “The people of the Western Region deserve better than these self-serving displays.”

This caused lots of stir as many wrote: “Akufo Addo has failed the Western Region”
Another wrote: “Unfortunately all this moment does is setting a precedence that any outgoing president can commission a statue and put it anywhere in the nation. There should be an independent council who decides such things and a laundry list met! Well at least he was true to his height!”
Another wrote: “between Nana Addo and his advisors, I don’t know who has failed the nation most”
Another wrote: “This should tell Ghanaians most especially the good people western Region what the NPP see as priority.”
Another wrote: “If you presume Akuffo Addo commissioned this provide pictures or videos of him commissioning it. Cheap politics in Ghana.”
