Two people shot dead, others injured while celebrating Halloween
Two people were killed and six others injured after a gunman opened fire in Orlando during Halloween celebrations attended by thousands.
Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith reported that a 17-year-old boy, Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, was arrested in connection with the shootings after gunfire was heard at two different locations. Police apprehended Jaylen at the scene.

This incident follows a previous arrest of Jaylen in 2023 for grand theft.

The two people killed were not named, but police described them as a 25-year-old Black man and a 19-year-old white man.
Among the injured, an 18-year-old white male was shot in the lower leg, a 39-year-old woman in the left hand, a 24-year-old Hispanic woman in the left leg, a 20-year-old Black man received a bullet graze to the head, a 26-year-old man was shot in the right foot, and two Hispanic women, ages 19 and 26, were injured from being trampled rather than shot.

All injured individuals are reported to be in stable condition.
The police added that everyone involved was dressed in Halloween costumes and enjoying the night’s festivities before the incident occurred.
“Shortly after reported shots fired, a shooting suspect was located and taken into custody at Washington and Orange” Smith said in his briefing this morning.
“The Orlando Police Department is conducting a shooting investigation in Downtown Orlando,’ the force said in a statement.
‘We are still gathering information and interviewing witnesses. We will have more information later this morning.”
