48yr old woman missing after falling into sinkhole while walking on streets

A 48-year-old woman named Vijaya Lakshmi is still missing after falling into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 23, 2024.

Reports indicate that Vijaya was walking on the street when the pavement suddenly collapsed beneath her. Despite ongoing search efforts for the past five days, she has not been found.

The Malaysian police informed the Associated Press (AP) that it’s likely the woman was swept away by an underground water current.

The Indian Embassy in Malaysia posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that search teams are methodically exploring new possible paths to locate her. 

It also revealed that the rescue operation involves the police, fire and rescue department, Indah Water Consortium, Kuala Lumpur and federal territories agencies, and civil defense forces.
