4yr old boy accidentally smashes 3,500yr old jar at a museum

A 3,500-year-old jar was accidentally smashed by a 4-year-old boy during a visit to the Hecht Museum in Israel.

The museum, speaking to the BBC, explained that the jar dates back to the Bronze Age, between 2200 and 1500 BC, and was considered a rare artifact because it was so well-preserved.

The jar had been on display near the museum’s entrance without any protective glass, as the museum believed there was a special charm in showing it without barriers.

According to the boy’s father, Alex, his son was curious about what was inside the jar and pulled on it slightly, causing it to fall and break.

Alex described his shock when it happened, saying he couldn’t believe his son had smashed the jar. “It wasn’t my child that did it,” he said in disbelief.

After the incident, the museum invited the child and his family back for an organized tour, which took place a few days later.

The museum’s spokesperson, Lihi Laszlo, told the BBC, “There are instances where display items are intentionally damaged, and such cases are treated very seriously, including involving the police. However, this was not the case here. The jar was accidentally damaged by a young child visiting the museum, and our response will reflect that.”
