I gave birth to my daughters when I was a woman and now I’m a man
Kayden Coleman, a 36-year-old transgender father of two daughters, Azealia and Journee, has opened up about the criticism he has faced as a transman.
As a single dad, he has been subjected to harsh judgments, with some people saying his children aren’t safe with him and that they should be taken away.

“Trolls have said that my children should be taken away from me. I’ve heard a lot of ‘those poor kids’ comments. People say my kids will grow up confused and that I’m depriving them of having a mother,” Kayden shared.
He also talked about how he discovered he was pregnant. In March 2013, he was preparing for top surgery and was advised by doctors to stop taking testosterone for six weeks before the operation. After the surgery, he later found out that he was over five months pregnant.

“My pregnancy journeys were similar in the sense that they were both surprises. I also had to navigate medical spaces and deal with a lot of transphobia within maternal healthcare,” he said.

Kayden decided to share his story on social media while pregnant with Azealia because he noticed a lack of representation of Black trans men who are pregnant. Since then, he has faced a lot of negativity, including threats to report him to Child Protective Services (CPS).

When it comes to explaining his gender to his older daughter, Kayden said, “I’ve been telling her that I was trans, without necessarily using the word ‘trans,’ since she was old enough to understand words.”
