I’m raising my husband ex-wife son after she died days after giving birth

A woman has shown incredible kindness by raising her husband’s ex-wife’s baby after the ex-wife tragically passed away just days after childbirth.

In August 2021, Christie Werts and her husband, Wesley, received a heartbreaking phone call. Wesley’s ex-wife was admitted to the hospital after contracting COVID-19.

At the time, she was 33 weeks pregnant and also suffered a stroke. Doctors warned that she might not survive, and sadly, she passed away five days after giving birth.

Despite never having met her husband’s ex-wife, Christie stepped in and reassured Wesley that they would adopt the baby and raise him as their own if the worst happened.

“When my husband told me what was happening, I immediately told him we could take the baby,” Christie shared.

“It wasn’t easy,” she explained. “Levi was born in Texas, and we lived in Ohio. We could have done a state transfer to foster him, but that would take at least a year. He would go into foster care during that time, and we didn’t want that.”

Christie, who was a foster child herself, felt strongly about preventing Levi from entering the foster system.

“I was a foster kid myself, and I didn’t want Levi to go through the foster care system,” she said.

“We sold our home and moved to Texas. He was placed with me right off the bat.

“Everyone was onboard with the move as it was to keep Levi out of foster care. It was difficult for the kids as they had settled and had friends – we had been established in our town. “We just wanted to make sure Levi was with us.

She also revealed that when she made this decision, she didn’t think twice because the baby is now her priority.”

“I didn’t think twice about adopting Levi. I fell in love with him immediately. I love him just as much as I love my other children,” Christie stated.

She continued: “Levi has taught me to focus more on being a mom than just a provider. With my other kids, I worked so much when they were younger and missed a lot. He’s made me excited about the small things again.”

Christie explained that moving to another state was tough for their children but that everyone eventually settled, especially Levi’s half-siblings.

Christie also stated that they won’t hide the truth about Levi’s birth mother from him. She plans to put pictures of his mother in his room and share stories about her life.

“We’ve started having little conversations with him, but he doesn’t quite understand yet,” Christie explained. “I’m going to put pictures of his mom in his room and make sure she’s a visible part of his life. We’ll tell Levi how loved he is, and having his brother and sister with him will be good.”

Christie added, “I’m going to write a personalized book and share his mom’s story with him.”
