We have been together for 100yrs, We never had arguments or misunderstandings

A couple who have lived together for over 100 years in extreme poverty have demonstrated their enduring love and care for each other despite their difficult circumstances.

In an interview with Afrimax, the elderly man shared that he was born in 1890.

His wife, however, could not recall or understand her age. Reflecting on her early years, she said, “My son, I don’t know anything about what you are talking about. I don’t know what you are trying to ask me. All I remember is that when I went to class, I used to sit all day and go back home in the evening. It was very difficult for me to understand anything in class. All I could do was pray and say, ‘In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,’ then recite a prayer which I have now forgotten.”

According to the couple, they have been together for 100 years without any misunderstandings, arguments, or quarrels.

The wife explained, “During our time, cheating was almost impossible. Women could not sit with other men and have a conversation; it was like a taboo. Parents used to visit witch doctors, and it was up to the gods to decide which girl was meant for their son. They would visit that family and ask for their daughter’s hand in marriage. We didn’t know each other; it was upon our parents to do that. It’s unbelievable, but we met on our wedding day. During that time, no one had the right to reject the partner chosen for them, regardless of one’s feelings, because it was our culture. That was the procedure. Even if a man was impotent, the witch doctors could always find a way to cure his disorder so he could be considered marriage material.”

Regarding the bullying they have faced, the couple said, “Different people have been bullying us based on our physical appearances. They have called us monkeys, chimpanzees, and other animals, saying we walk like people before the evolution of mankind. We don’t care about what they say as long as we are old here today and gone tomorrow.”
