Nigerian lady celebrates as she was nominated for Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarship (Photos)

A Nigerian Lady Identified as Tolulope adeoti is in a celebratory mood as she secures the Chevening and commonwealth scholarship.

Giving her gratitude to God, she wrote;

God made this possible and I can’t keep calm!⠀
Apart from the statistics on the gender-based violence and discrimination against the girl child; attending a girls’ secondary school and growing up in a rural community also exposed me to the harsh reality of the Nigerian girl child.⠀

This experience and my reality fuelled my choice of profession- lawyer to defend women rights and to also empower them.⠀

After graduating from the university, I founded an NGO Ladies Connect Initiative that protects women’s rights from gender-based violence through free legal representation and community-focused programs which have catered for the needs of thousands of girls and women in rural communities for the past four years.⠀

To enhance my skills, I applied for the Chevening and the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship and I am excited to write that I have been selected for two prestigious scholarships; the Chevening Scholarship and the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship.⠀

For the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship: I was nominated by two schools: the University of Sussex which is ranked as the 1st university in the world for development studies to study Gender and Development and Brunel University which is also one of the top public universities in London to study LLM International Human Rights. ⠀

However, I have decided to select the Chevening Scholarship to pursue my Master’s at the University of Ulster to study LLM in Gender, Conflict and Human Rights the only university in the UK and Ireland that offers the course.

Both scholarships are highly competitive and I feel so honoured to be selected as a part of the top 2 % out of 58,000 applicants across the world.⠀ It is also interesting to note that both scholarship worth over 100,000£.
I appreciate the #ForeignCommonWealthAndDevelopmentOffice for recognising the advocacy work that I do.⠀
