My work focuses primarily on how we can open doors to more people from disadvantaged backgrounds and truly democratise higher education.
Hopefully being in a place like Cambridge will provide me with the leverage to lead that agenda nationally and globally. Professor Arday says he was diagnosed with global developmental delay when he was a child, but that didn’t make him question the world around him any less.
He says he remembers thinking; Why are some people homeless? Why is there war?’ as a youngster. ‘I remember thinking if I don’t make it as a football player or a professional snooker player, then I want to save the world’. he added.
He stated that after he tried to learn to read, he became a PE Teacher and this made him understand standard inequalities that childrens can face in education.
According to him, he stated that he wanted to further more in his education but but he had no guidance of how to do this on his own.
Jason said at the age of 27, he wrote on the walls of his parents that he will become a lecture in Cambridge or Oxford University one day.
He remembers his college mentor, Sandro Sandi, telling him, I think you can do this – I think we can take on the world and win’. This was the first time he ‘really believed in himself’ and he became ‘determined and focused’ after this talk. Still working as a PE teacher during the day, he wrote papers and studied by night.
‘When I started writing academic papers, I had no idea what I was doing’, he said. ‘I did not have a mentor and no one ever showed me how to write. Everything I submitted got violently rejected. The peer review process was so cruel, it was almost funny, but I treated it as a learning experience and, perversely, began to enjoy it.’
After years of relentless hard work, Professor Arday has two master’s degrees and a PhD in educational studies. He has had roles at the University of Glasgow and the University of Durham, and is an adjunct professor at the Nelson Mandela University. Looking back at his inspiring story, he says he knows ‘this is what I meant to do’. He will start at the University of Cambridge on March 6 as Professor of Sociology of Education in the Faculty of Education.

Lisa Archbold, a Kiwi passenger flying from Salt Lake City to San Francisco, claimed she was humilated from a Delta flight for not wearing a bra.
Speaking with The Herald, Lisa recounted the incident, explaining that she felt unwelcome from the moment she boarded the plane. Things escalated when a member of the airline’s ground crew approached her at her seat and asked to speak with her privately.
“I’m thinking, someone has died or they found something weird in my bag,” she said. However, the ground crew member said loudly, “I need to speak to you in private. Follow me.”
According to Lisa, the crew member told her: “It’s Delta’s policy to remove anyone in revealing clothing from the aircraft. I will allow you to stay on the plane if you put your jacket on.”
Sharing the photo of her outfit on social media, she wrote: “I was dressed like a little boy in baggy pants and shirt, I had no idea what she was talking about,”
She added: “Neither were the men on that flight and lots have bigger breasts than me.”

A woman named Avalon Mira has shared her inspiring journey from poverty to financial success, revealing that her fame and fortune came from dressing up as a “naughty Shrek character,” Doris.
Avalon recounted her struggles, explaining that she once lived in extreme poverty, stealing food to survive and struggling to pay bills and rent.
She said: “I used to be so broke
“I couldn’t afford rent or bills, and was forced to steal food for my family.
“Doris has changed everything.
“I’ve never made this much money in my entire life.
“I’m finally able to travel and see the world.
“For my birthday, I’m going to an island near Aruba and next year I’m going to Japan and Greece.
“My son and I have a really good life, and I’m so grateful for it.

A tourist named Maxine shared her eerie experience of encountering what she believed to be a ghost that prevented her from using the restroom.
Maxine explained that while visiting the Earl Grey Tea Rooms in New York, she tried five times to push open the door to the ladies’ room, but couldn’t get through.
Feeling shocked, she went downstairs to ask the staff if the door was stiff or if someone was inside.
However, when she finally managed to open the door, she was shocked to find no one in the restroom.
In a chat with Mail online she expressed her surprise at the strange encounter, leaving her convinced that something supernatural is present.
She said: “I’ve been in the tea rooms before. It’s little oldy worldy place. A bit eerie, I think.I tried the door and I couldn’t get in. I tried it quite a few times.

“We close soon. I went back upstairs, and then I pulled the door and it opened straight away. It was really weird. I didn’t really think about it straight away. But then on the train home, I said it was weird – as if somebody was not allowing me to go in.
“Like when you put your weight in the way.
” I thought there was something stopping me from getting in there 100 per cent – like it was having a bit of a game with me. There’s definitely a presence there.
“I went with my friend. I said you come with me when I go to the loo, I’m not going on my own! I didn’t say it was me who had the experience and me and my friend were talking about it, and the lady said ‘Oh no, that’s a load of cobblers!

I was chased out of the wedding- Makeup artist Laments as Bride asked her to leave for overstaying her welcome
Makeup artist Kexiah recently shared her experience of being asked to leave a wedding by the bride and event planner after overstaying to film content for social media.
Kexiah, who owns the luxury makeup and hair business “The Key Look,” recounted that it all happened at a wedding in September.
She and her team arrived to do makeup for the bride and bridesmaids, but the situation took a turn when she was asked to leave after the makeup was done. Later, she returned to film the wedding events for her social media content.
“I was so excited about the content we could get, so I kept filming…….I also wanted some BTS to share with out social media.” she said in a part
She continued: “I was going full makeup and full on content y’all,’ the makeup artist said,
“I had everyone laughing all morning,’ she claimed. ‘There was literally not a [dull] moment all day.’
“Everyone kept telling me to stay for the wedding because it would be so much fun and I bring so much good energy.
“I told them I don’t know when I’m going to leave but we are booked to come to the venue. I also told them I’ll continue to film.”
As she was filming, she revealed on how the assistant wedding planner approached her and told her that the couples want her to leave.
she added: “What did I do??? I’m just so confused.
“I said to her I understand you and your husband want me to leave,” she recounted, repeating several times that she was ‘confused.’
“I didn’t do anything to anybody, like I’m so confused,” she shared.
“I said thank you for allowing me to be apart of your wedding day but I’m going to go ahead and go.
“It was so embarrassing and so crazy.
“I literally did nothing to nobody at this wedding.”

Please forgive me, It really affecting my mental health- Adanma Luke pleads to Nigerians over the death of Junior Pope
Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has once again taken to social media to plead with Nigerians to forgive her over the tragic death of the late actor Junior Pope.
It could be recalled that the actor passed away in April this year after drowning when their boat capsized in the River Niger while returning from a movie shoot.
In a recent post, Adanma begged Nigerians for forgiveness as she recounted the heartbreaking ordeal. She revealed that before they went on set, she had requested a safer location but was eventually given the location in Asaba where Junior Pope tragically lost his life.
She also mentioned that she had asked for life jackets, but was reassured that there was no need to worry since it wasn’t the first time people had shot movies there.
Adanma shared that the incident has deeply affected her, leaving her unsure of how to approach people for work, as she fears no one would want to work with her now.
She also revealed that the tragedy has taken a toll on her mental health, pushing her into depression.

British mom Melissa Sloan, who is heavily tattooed, has opened up about the criticism she faces due to her extreme tattoos.
This time, the issue involves beaches. Melissa shared that she avoids going to the beach because kids stare at her and sometimes even run away. As a result, she feels unable to go anywhere comfortably.
Lamenting, she said: “I avoid the beach and won’t be going anywhere,” Melissa said.
“Kids stare, point or run off when they see me.
“I think my tattoos scare them and parents will also look at me strangely, so it’s usually an awkward outing that I’d rather avoid.
“My ink confuses most people and I don’t care, this is who I am.
“But even so, it can be tiring to have to be on alert for any negative comments or looks.
“So for my well being, I sometimes avoid things I enjoy, like going to the beach or a public pool when it’s sunny.”
Melissa Sloan also shared that she relies on her husband to do the shopping because she doesn’t feel free to go out. She revealed that she has even been banned from her kids’ school, the local pub, churches, and other places.
She said: “Since I’ve been banned from my local pub for life, the beer garden also isn’t an option.
“It’s a sacrifice I accept and my family accept me for who I am – my kids included.
“But I wish I didn’t have to hide my skin because others can’t accept that we don’t all have to look the same.”
