Man Faces Death Penalty For Killing His Father over property In Lagos

A man recognized as Rasak Abiona has been sentenced to death by an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday, for beating his 62-year-vintage father to loss of life with an iron rod.

The man changed into convicted of killing his father in the course of a dispute over assets(Property) in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reviews that Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo delivered the judgment in a digital hearing.

Justice Taiwo held that though the prosecution had supplied circumstantial evidence towards the middle-aged defendant at some point of the trial, the state proved its case beyond affordable doubt.

She cited that the technician’s confessional statements to the police implicated him and that in the trial, the defendant did no longer gift witnesses in courtroom to back his claim that his father died after a fall.

Justice Taiwo sentenced Rasak, after locating him responsible of a fee of murder opposite to Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos 2011.

“This is a totally unfortunate and unhappy case wherein a son kills his father. There isn’t any doubt that by using hitting the deceased with an iron rod on the head, the defendant intended to purpose grievous bodily harm.

“The defendant should have without difficulty overpowered his father, a 62-year-old man with out hitting him on the pinnacle with an iron rod. This case is a clear indication of what anger and impatience can do in a man’s life.

“The court docket does no longer have a discretion to provide a lesser punishment in a case of homicide in view of Section 223 of the Criminal Law 2011″.
